No. Adjustable beds and systems like Sleep Number change how the mattress feels or sits, adjusting firmness, elevation or position. Castaway Bed changes the layout of the bed itself, separating the two primary sleeping spaces to reveal a concealed third sleeping space in the center.

Yes. Castaway Bed is a modular king bed designed with safety as a priority.

The bed uses a push-to-operate switch, meaning it only moves while the switch is actively being pressed. Releasing the switch stops the bed. The opening and closing motion is slow and controlled, helping to prevent sudden movement.

For added safety, the control switch is discreetly located on the back of the nightstand, making it difficult for young children to access. When the bed is open, you can also unplug the bed for added peace of mind. When unplugged, the motor cannot operate, preventing the bed from being closed until it is plugged back in.

While these features are designed to reduce the risk of accidents, we strongly recommend adult supervision when children or pets are present and always ensuring the center area is clear before closing the bed.

Yes. The center mattress is designed for sleeping when the bed is fully open and stationary. We recommend adult supervision when children or pets are using the bed, and the bed should never be opened or closed while anyone is on the moving sections.

Yes. Castaway Bed uses a motorized system, and some noise is normal during opening and closing.

The movement is designed to be smooth and controlled, but the motor is audible and may be noticeable—especially in quiet environments. Because of this, we recommend operating the bed before going to sleep or when both sleepers are awake, rather than during the middle of the night.

Once the bed is fully open or closed, it is completely silent during use.

Castaway Bed should always be operated according to the provided operating instructions. Never operate the bed in the dark, especially while you are first becoming familiar with how it moves. Before operating, always do a visual sweep around the bed to make sure there is nothing on either side of the bed or on the center platform.

Castaway Bed also makes an audible sound while moving, so you can hear when the bed is being operated. For additional safety and peace of mind when the bed is open, you can unplug the bed. When unplugged, the motor cannot operate, so the bed cannot be closed until it is plugged back in.

Castaway Bed is designed to work with two standard Twin XL mattresses, which are not included. This allows each sleeper to choose the mattress type and firmness that best fits their individual sleep preferences.

Castaway Bed does include one custom 31-inch center mattress, designed specifically for the center platform when the bed is opened.

Castaway Bed can be used fully closed like a traditional king bed, or opened to create space between the two sleeping surfaces. The adjustable opening allows you to separate the beds by just a small amount or up to the full width of the center platform.

The center platform can be used with a mattress for additional sleeping space, such as for a child, pets, or shared family sleeping. However, the bed can also be used without a center mattress, allowing you to create open space between sleepers.

Castaway Bed includes one custom center mattress designed specifically for the center platform.

The mattress is approximately 31 inches wide and about 4 inches thick, allowing it to fit neatly between the two sleeping surfaces when the bed is opened.

The center mattress includes a removable zippered cover that can be removed and washed for easy care.

Each side of Castaway Bed is designed to support up to 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight, excluding the mattress.

Castaway Bed uses a solid platform support system rather than slats, along with a substantial lumber frame designed for stability and durability.

Because each side of the bed operates independently, weight should be considered per side, not just as a combined total across the full bed.

When fully closed, Castaway Bed has a footprint similar to a standard king bed with attached nightstands, with a total width of approximately 116 inches (just under 10 feet).

As the bed opens, it separates side-to-side, revealing an adjustable center platform that can open from 1 inch up to 31 inches wide.

When fully open, the total width of the bed is approximately 146 inches (just over 12 feet).

The most important clearance area is at the outer corners where the attached nightstands move outward as the bed opens. If your room does not allow for the full 31-inch opening, the bed can still be used in partially opened positions, allowing you to adjust the layout based on your space.

Your room needs enough space for Castaway Bed to open and close fully, with clear space around the bed and center platform. Delivery access also needs to accommodate the bed and its components, including doorways, hallways, stairs, and elevators where applicable. Our team will review access requirements with you before delivery to help ensure a smooth installation.

Yes. Castaway Bed can be installed upstairs and in many apartments, provided the delivery team has sufficient access to the installation location. Before delivery, we’ll confirm that doorways, hallways, stairs, elevators, and other access points can accommodate the bed and its components.

Yes. Every Castaway Bed is made to order rather than pulled from inventory, so we can build sizes beyond the standard configuration shown on the site.

Custom sizes are quoted individually and may affect lead time. Contact us with your dimensions and we will tell you what is possible.

Yes. The site shows Natural Oak, Black and White, but additional colorways are available on request since each bed is built for you.

In many cases, yes. Because every Castaway Bed is made to order, we can build the frame taller so an adjustable split base drops into it.

The added height is typically 3 to 5 inches depending on your base, so we need the brand and model to get it right.

We deliver and install in person, so we expand region by region rather than all at once.

Free white glove delivery and installation is available now in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

Outside that zone, we plan installation routes one region at a time. The East Coast route is open now, covering Maine down to Florida, and you can hold your place on it with a fully refundable $500 reservation.

Castaway Bed deliveries are typically completed within approximately 3 to 6 weeks from the time your order is placed.

After placing your order, you will receive an order confirmation email immediately. Within 24 to 48 hours, our team will contact you to schedule a delivery date and time that works best for you.

Because Castaway Bed includes white glove delivery and in-home installation, we coordinate the delivery window directly with you to ensure a smooth installation experience.

You will receive a reminder approximately five days before delivery and another reminder within 24 hours of your scheduled delivery window so you know exactly when to expect our team.

If you reserved a place on an upcoming route rather than ordering in our current zone, the timeline works the same way once your route is confirmed. We contact you to schedule as soon as it is.

Our white glove delivery service includes delivery of the Castaway Bed components into your home and full installation of the bed in your room.

To help ensure installation goes smoothly, we recommend removing any existing bed frames, mattresses, or furniture from the installation area before your scheduled delivery window.

Our delivery team is not responsible for removing or relocating existing furniture from the room.

White glove delivery includes a full in-home delivery and installation experience. Our delivery team will bring the Castaway Bed components into your home, install the system in your room, and ensure everything is fully set up before leaving.

Assembly depends on the delivery method selected at checkout.

With white glove delivery, no assembly is required. Our delivery team brings the bed into your home, installs the system in your room, and ensures everything is fully set up before leaving.

In the future, freight shipping with customer assembly will also be available. If freight shipping is selected, the bed will arrive packaged and will require in-home assembly. Some components may be heavy, so we recommend having at least two people available for moving the items into the home and completing installation.

A $500 reservation holds your place on an upcoming delivery route in your region.

It is applied to the price of your bed, and it is fully refundable at any time.

Reservations tell us where demand is concentrated, which is how we decide when a route runs. Once your route is confirmed, we contact you to schedule installation.

Yes, at any time and for any reason. Ask us and we refund it.

If we do not reach the minimum number of reservations needed to run a route to your area, every reservation is refunded in full.

Your $500 comes off the price of your bed, so it is not an extra cost.

We open one region at a time, so reservations are only available where we are actively planning a route.

Return eligibility depends on the delivery method selected at checkout.

For white glove delivery and installation, returns are not accepted once the bed has been delivered and installed. Customers have the opportunity to inspect the product with the delivery team at the time of installation to ensure everything is functioning as expected.

For freight shipping, Castaway Bed may be returned within 14 days of delivery if the product remains unassembled and in like-new condition.

Because Castaway Bed is a large, engineered furniture system, we encourage customers to review the product dimensions and ask any questions prior to delivery to ensure the bed is a good fit for their space.

Reservations are refunded on request, with no inspection and no conditions.

Once your return is received and inspected at our warehouse, we’ll issue a refund to your original payment method within 5 to 7 business days, as long as the return meets all eligibility criteria.

Original shipping and delivery fees are non-refundable.

Castaway Bed includes comprehensive warranty coverage for the life of your ownership. Motorized and electrical components are covered for 5 years with parts and labor, followed by lifetime coverage on parts. Structural frame components are covered for 10 years, with parts and labor for the first 2 years and parts only thereafter. Finishes and cosmetic components are covered for 2 years with parts and labor.

Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials or workmanship under normal residential use and is subject to the terms and exclusions of our Limited Warranty.
