What is Castaway Bed?
Castaway Bed is a patent-pending, modular king bed designed for couples who want the flexibility to sleep together or apart. It transforms a standard king bed into two independent twin XL sleep spaces, on demand.
The bed can separate anywhere from just 1 inch to a full 31 inches, creating as much or as little space as you need, depending on how you want to sleep.
When fully opened, Castaway Bed reveals a 31-inch center mattress, offering additional sleeping or shared space without requiring a permanent split or separate beds.
Who is Castaway Bed best for?
Castaway Bed is best for couples who sleep differently, including those with different schedules, snoring, movement during sleep, or families who occasionally or regularly share their bed with children or pets.
It’s also a good fit for couples who, for personal, cultural, or religious reasons, prefer or require separate sleep spaces at certain times while still sharing one bed.
Is Castaway Bed the same as an adjustable bed?
No. Adjustable beds change the angle or position of the mattress. Castaway Bed is a modular king bed that physically separates into two sleep spaces, changing the layout of the bed itself rather than adjusting mattress firmness or position. Castaway Bed does not include mattresses and is designed to work with customer-selected Twin XL mattresses.
Is Castaway Bed the same as Sleep Number or other adjustable beds?
No. While both Castaway Bed and Sleep Number offer adjustable sleep experiences, they solve different problems.
Sleep Number focuses on adjusting mattress firmness and position. Castaway Bed is a modular king bed that physically separates into two sleep spaces, allowing couples to change the layout of the bed rather than just how it feels.
Is Castaway Bed Safe to use?
Yes. Castaway Bed is a modular king bed designed with safety as a priority.
The bed uses a push-to-operate switch, meaning it only moves while the switch is actively being pressed. Once the switch is released, the bed stops. The opening and closing motion is slow and controlled, which helps prevent sudden movement.
For added safety, the control buttons are discreetly located on the back of the nightstands, making them difficult for young children to access.
While these features help reduce the risk of accidents, we still strongly recommend adult supervision when children or pets are present, and we encourage customers to ensure the center area is clear before closing the bed.
As with any motorized furniture, following the provided usage and safety guidelines is important for safe operation.
Does Castaway Bed require electricity?
Yes. Castaway Bed uses a motorized system and must be plugged into a standard electrical outlet to operate. If the bed is not powered, it will remain in its current position.
Does the bed make noise when it moves?
Yes. Castaway Bed uses a motorized system, and some noise is normal during opening and closing.
The movement is designed to be smooth and controlled, but the motor is audible and may be noticeable—especially in quiet environments. Because of this, we recommend operating the bed before going to sleep or when both sleepers are awake, rather than during the middle of the night.
Once the bed is fully open or closed, it is completely silent during use.
Can kids or pets sleep on Castaway Bed?
Yes. The center mattress is designed for sleeping when the bed is fully open and stationary.
We recommend adult supervision when children or pets are using the bed, and the bed should never be opened or closed while someone is on or between moving sections.
Additional safety and usage guidance is provided during delivery and setup.
What if a part stops working over time?

Does Castaway Bed include mattresses?
Castaway Bed is designed to work with two standard Twin XL mattresses, which are not included. This allows each sleeper to choose the mattress type and firmness that best fits their individual sleep preferences.
Castaway Bed does include one custom 31-inch center mattress, designed specifically for the center platform when the bed is opened.

Do I have to use the center mattress?
No. The center mattress is optional.
Castaway Bed can be used fully closed like a traditional king bed, or opened to create space between the two sleeping surfaces. The adjustable opening allows you to separate the beds by just a small amount or up to the full width of the center platform.
The center platform can be used with a mattress for additional sleeping space, such as for a child, pets, or shared family sleeping. However, the bed can also be used without a center mattress, allowing you to create open space between sleepers.
What size mattress fits the center platform of Castaway Bed?
Castaway Bed includes one custom center mattress designed specifically for the center platform.
The mattress is approximately 31 inches wide and about 4 inches thick, allowing it to fit neatly between the two sleeping surfaces when the bed is opened.
The center mattress includes a removable zippered cover that can be removed and washed for easy care.

What size mattresses work with Castaway Bed?
Castaway Bed is designed to work with two Twin XL mattresses.
Using two Twin XL mattresses allows each side of the bed to function independently while maintaining the overall dimensions of a standard king bed when fully closed.
How much weight can Castaway Bed support?
Each side of Castaway Bed is designed to support up to 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight, excluding the mattress.
Castaway Bed uses a solid platform support system rather than slats, along with a substantial lumber frame designed for stability and durability.
Because each side of the bed operates independently, weight should be considered per side, not just as a combined total across the full bed.

How much space does Castaway Bed need in a room?
When fully closed, Castaway Bed has a footprint similar to a standard king bed with attached nightstands, with a total width of approximately 116 inches (just under 10 feet).
As the bed opens, it separates side-to-side, revealing an adjustable center platform that can open from 1 inch up to 31 inches wide.
When fully open, the total width of the bed is approximately 146 inches (just over 12 feet).
The most important clearance area is at the outer corners where the attached nightstands move outward as the bed opens. If your room does not allow for the full 31-inch opening, the bed can still be used in partially opened positions, allowing you to adjust the layout based on your space.

Where do you deliver?
Castaway Bed is currently available in select areas of the United States through our white glove delivery and in-home installation service.

We are actively expanding our delivery network and plan to introduce additional regions and freight shipping options in the future, allowing Castaway Bed to reach more homes across the country.
How long does delivery take, and how is it scheduled?
Castaway Bed deliveries are typically completed within approximately 3–4 weeks from the time your order is placed.
After placing your order, you will receive an order confirmation email immediately. Within 24–48 hours, our team will contact you to schedule a delivery date and time that works best for you.
Because Castaway Bed includes white glove delivery and in-home installation, we coordinate the delivery window directly with you to ensure a smooth installation experience.
You will receive a reminder approximately five days before delivery and another reminder within 24 hours of your scheduled delivery window so you know exactly when to expect our team.
Can Castaway Bed be installed upstairs or in apartments?
In many cases, yes. For white glove delivery, Castaway Bed components are brought into the home individually and installed in the room, which makes upstairs and apartment installations possible in many spaces.
The most important requirement is that entryways, hallways, stairways, and elevators provide enough clearance for the delivery team to safely carry the components into the room.

Will the delivery team move or remove my existing bed or furniture?
Our white glove delivery service includes delivery of the Castaway Bed components into your home and full installation of the bed in your room.
To help ensure installation goes smoothly, we recommend removing any existing bed frames, mattresses, or furniture from the installation area before your scheduled delivery window.
Our delivery team is not responsible for removing or relocating existing furniture from the room.
What does white glove delivery include?
White glove delivery includes a full in-home delivery and installation experience. Our delivery team will bring the Castaway Bed components into your home, install the system in your room, and ensure everything is fully set up before leaving.
White glove delivery includes:
• Scheduled delivery at a time that works for you
• Carrying all bed components into your home and room of choice
• Full installation of the Castaway Bed system
• Removal of all packaging materials
Your Castaway Bed will be fully installed and ready to use before the delivery team departs.
At this time, Castaway Bed orders include white glove delivery and installation. Freight shipping with customer assembly will be introduced in the future for customers who prefer a self-installation option.
Is assembly required?
Assembly depends on the delivery method selected at checkout.
With white glove delivery, no assembly is required. Our delivery team brings the bed into your home, installs the system in your room, and ensures everything is fully set up before leaving.
In the future, freight shipping with customer assembly will also be available. If freight shipping is selected, the bed will arrive packaged and will require in-home assembly. Some components may be heavy, so we recommend having at least two people available for moving the items into the home and completing installation.

Can I return the bed if it doesn’t work for me?
Return eligibility depends on the delivery method selected at checkout.
For white glove delivery and installation, returns are not accepted once the bed has been delivered and installed. Customers have the opportunity to inspect the product with the delivery team at the time of installation to ensure everything is functioning as expected.
For freight shipping, Castaway Bed may be returned within 14 days of delivery if the product remains unassembled and in like-new condition.
Because Castaway Bed is a large, engineered furniture system, we encourage customers to review the product dimensions and ask any questions prior to delivery to ensure the bed is a good fit for their space.
How do refunds work?
Once your return is received and inspected at our warehouse, we’ll issue a refund to your original payment method within 5–7 business days, as long as the return meets all eligibility criteria.
Original shipping and delivery fees are non-refundable.
