Everyday use

What it’s like to sleep
on Castaway

The bed moves slowly and evenly, so you can stay exactly where you are while it does.

01

Opening while you rest

Reach behind the nightstand and hold. You stay lying down while your side glides out.

02

Closing while you rest

The two beds come back together just as gently, with no need to get up first.

03

Sleeping across the center platform

A child, a pet, or an adult can rest on the center platform while the bed is open.

The center platform explained

Inside the center platform

Engineered for
everyday comfort

The center platform is the piece that makes the transformation work. It stays where it is while the two Twin XL beds move around it.

  • Why it existsIt carries the third mattress, so the space between the beds is a place to sleep rather than a gap.
  • How it stays putFloor anchored and independent of the two moving platforms. It does not travel with them.
  • SupportA full platform panel underneath, with no slats and nothing to shift.
  • StabilityThe mattress is held in position, so the surface stays even whether the bed is open or closed.
  • Mattress31″ wide and included with every Castaway. Additional or replacement mattresses are available separately.

How do I open and close the bed?

Press and hold the switch on the back of either nightstand. The bed moves while you hold the button and stops the moment you release it.

How long does a full open or close take?

About 17 seconds from fully closed to fully open, and the same coming back together.

Do both sides move at the same time?

Yes. Both Twin XL platforms glide outward together at the same rate, so the bed stays balanced and centered on the headboard.

Can I stop the bed partway?

Yes. Release the button and the bed holds that position. Any width between closed and fully open is a position you can leave it in.

Is there a remote or an app?

No. The switch behind the nightstand is the only control, and it only works while it is being held.

What is the center platform?

A fixed platform that sits between the two Twin XL beds and holds the third mattress. It turns the space between the beds into a third place to sleep.

Does the center mattress move when the bed opens?

No. The center platform is anchored to the floor and independent of the two moving platforms, so it stays exactly where it is.

Where is the center platform when the bed is closed?

Concealed underneath, level with the two Twin XL platforms, so the closed bed reads as a single king-style sleeping surface.

Is the center platform safe to sleep on?

Yes. It is fully supported and floor anchored, which makes it suitable for a child, a pet, or an adult.

What happens if someone lets go mid movement?

Movement stops immediately. There is no coasting and no completing the cycle on its own.

Is it safe around children and pets?

Nothing moves unless a person is holding a button, the motion is slow, and it stops the instant the button is released. The bed cannot start on its own.

Are the open and close buttons separate?

Yes. Each direction has its own dedicated button, so there is never a question of which way the bed is about to go.

Can I stop it from moving at all?

Yes. Castaway runs on a standard household outlet, so unplugging it takes the bed out of service entirely until you plug it back in.

Can the bed move on a schedule or by voice?

No. There is no automation, no scheduling, no timers, and no voice control.

Does the bed make noise when it moves?

You will hear a soft mechanical hum while the bed is in motion, and nothing at all when it is at rest.

Can I feel it move while I am lying down?

The motion is slow and even rather than sudden, so it feels closer to being gently carried than to being jostled.

Can I open or close it while I am in bed?

Yes, and most people do. The switch is positioned so you can reach it from the bed without sitting up.

Does Castaway need to be plugged in?

Yes. Castaway plugs into a standard household outlet.

What happens to the nightstands when the bed opens?

They are attached to each bed and travel with it, so your lamp, your book, and your charger stay within reach in every position.

How many mattresses does Castaway use?

Three. Two Twin XL mattresses on the moving platforms, and one 31 inch center mattress on the fixed platform.

Do the two sides have to match?

No, and this is one of the quieter advantages of the design. Each sleeper can choose their own mattress and firmness.

Is the center mattress included?

Yes. One center platform mattress comes with every Castaway. Additional mattresses, or a replacement, can be purchased separately.
